Jaylor's Guide to Job Classes
When you first start Ragnarok Online, you start in the new zone as a Novice.
Novices at first can't do much, they come equipped with a Knife and a Cotton Shirt. Their hp is low, just like their sp, but there's nothing you can do because you automatically start like this. You can't make emoticons, or chat rooms. You can't sit, or trade. Your only skill is Basic Skill, which in time, lets you do these things. Face it, you pretty much suck.
After a little bit of training, you find that the flat white bars in the box at the top left are getting filled with blue. If you can't find the box, press alt-v. It's the box that appears and disappears. If you still can't find it, consider a trip to the optometrist, or you can try turning on your computer screen. When you’ve trained for a while, your job level will be 10. It won’t go higher. This means that you’re ready for a 1st level job class! You can head over to Payon to the Job Changer at the top of the stairs, or go find the quests.

Naru's Novice Guide!
You start off in a place called the Newbie Zone! (OMG!) You then head to your right, to the castle.
Now, as you go into this castle, there will be an NPC named Usher. Talk to him and he will give you the choices of:
ºDirect Access To Ragnarok
ºSign Up At The Training Grounds
Choice 1 sends you into RO, and Choice 2 gives you a training course where you can gain levels and learn about the game.
Choice 2 tells you all you need to know as you go, so I'll just talk about Choice 1:
From here you start off in a random city of Rune Midgard (The whole world of Ragnarok is called Rune Midgard, and its cities are;
ºProntera
ºPayon
ºMorroc
ºAlberta
ºAl De Baren
ºGeffen
ºIzlude
ºLutie
ºGonryun
ºJuno
ºComodo
ºAmastu
ºLouyang
Now, you usally start off in either Prontera, Payon, Morroc, Alberta, Izlude, or Geffen (The Main Towns). From here it is YOUR job to get to Payon, Capital of Dragon RO! You can either walk there or use the convient Warp NPC's located in each and every town! Once you reach Payon, you can interact with the people of Dragon RO, or just start off leveling.
As you acquire items, you need to know what to sell and what to keep. You can sell off mostly anything in the ETC section of your items other then cards and items that may give some sort of boost to your stats. The Equipment section should usally be sold when your fighting monsters of low level since they dont drop very good rares, and also since you dont know what you get exacalty due to the fact you have to use the item magnifier to see what they are. (Magnifires are little magnifies glasses that make an unidentified item usable). The First slot is consumable items (you can eat) so, you should usally keep those since they restore your HP/SP usally.
Where TO Train!
As a Novince you get 500z, Cotton Shirt, and a Knife. These are PATHETIC weapons, but since your new and have about no money, its better then nothing huh? Now, from Payon, go south (Thats Down) Until you walk on a bridge to a portal outside of Payon. From here, kill everything! There are usally Porings, Fabress, Lunatics, Williows, Chonchon, and mabey an occasional Creamy. Until level 5-6, kill only Porings, Fabres, and Lunatics. As soon as you hit level 5-6 you can literally kill everything in that place.
As a Novince, just save up your money. Your goning to need alot of things in the future since your Knife and Cotton Shirt isn't going to cut it. Probabbly getting red potions, a butterfly wing, and mabey a WEAPON would be a good way to start off.
Now, as you hit level 12/10 (level 12 can vary) you can turn into a NEW JOB! These jobs have special skills related to the job they are. These Jobs are;
ºSwordsman
ºArcher
ºMagican/Mage
ºThief
ºMerchant
ºAcolyte
ºSuper Novince
Swordsman Are about brute force and stength. Usally taking the brunt of the damamge and dealing the most meele damage. Good Starting Choice
Archer's stay in the back usally and fire their arrows upon the enemy either while running and shooting or having someone hold it off while they shoot. Good Starting Choice
Magican/Mage are the spellcasters of Rune Midgard and they usally stay in the back and cast their spells. Their spells have a time delay, and if interupted (attacked) they are canceled.
Thief's use speed and quick attacks to kill the enenmy. Good Starting Choice
Merchant's are well.. merchants. They have skills to help gain zeny (overcharge what they sell to npcs, get a discount from what they but from npcs, open a shop to sell their items) and later as a blacksmith, they can forge weapons! They have NO offensive skills except Mamonite which takes up zeny (Rune Midgard Currency) Would not recommend as a starting choice.
Acoylte's are the healers of the game. They have skills are based to support their teammates (Heal to resotore HP. Skills like Agility Up, Blessing, Angelus to boost up their teammate's stats temporarily, and ability to remove status ailaments) They are VERY weak physically and not very good at first. Would not Recommend as a starting choice.
Super Novince's are well.. super novinces. They have every single skill that the other 1-1 jobs have. And are very well ranged, however, soon there will be new higher limits on what level you need to be a Super Novince (Base level 60) so.. get em while you can =3. Good starting choice until limits are regulated.
1st Classes
Swordsman
If you don’t care for magic or long-range, and you just love to do massive damage and super fast bashing, Swordsman is the job for you. They have skills such as Bash, Provoke, Magnum Break, and HP Recovery. Swordies need lots of str and vit. If you would like to focus more on speed, increase agi. For more health and less damage from enemies, increase vit. To crush the enemy before it can hit you, or in a few hits, increase str. Swordsmen use one-handed or two-handed swords, or spears. A good suggestion for a new Swordsman is either a Sword or a Blade.
To become a swordy, as they’re called, you want to go down to Izlude. Once there, go to the island to the west that you can reach from a bridge. Talk to the big guy behind the counter, and (duh) tell him you want to be a Swordsman. Follow the instructions in-game.
The swordy test goes something like this: You are in a long room, and you have to navigate past holes and across narrow bridges. If you fall into a hole, you are plunged into a room with aggressive Fabres. Sounds dangerous? The best way to do this is to not be quick about it, you have 10 minutes. First decide where the cursor is and where you will walk, then click. Don’t click too far ahead in the later stages, or you will fall over the side instead of going around. One you’ve finished, talk to the guy again and you will become a swordy.
Mage
Mages are great wielders of magic. If you like long-range elemental attacks with effects, or you just pain love magic, you want to be a Mage. They attack long-range, which decreases the chance of getting hit. Remember, though, that as soon as you target a monster, it comes to attack back, and mages need some time to charge up their attacks. If you are hit while charging, it will break your concentration and cancel the spell. Mages have skills like: Fire Bolt, Lightning Bolt, Cold Bolt, Napalm Beat, and SP Recovery. A good starting off skill is Napalm Beat, as it has no charge time. Mages use Wands or Staffs. A good starting weapon to get is a Wand or a Staff (creative names, huh). Later you will be able to buy more advanced versions of these weapons.
To become a Mage, take a ride with the Town Warper to Geffen, the city of magic. Go to the top-left building in the outer ring of Geffen. At the back of the room, there is a lady who you talk to. She tells you what potion you should mix to prove yourself mage-worthy. Now remember the number, and talk to the bookcase. You heard me right, the bookcase at the north-east wall talks. Tell it which potion you want to make, and it will tell you the ingredients, as well as the type of Gemstone to chose and a code number. Write these down, then go collect all the items. If you need the Payon Solution, get an empty test tube (might be empty bottle, I’m not sure) and warp to Payon. Go north one map, leaving the main city from the top right, and head north-ish in there until you find a guy by a pond. Talk to him and get the solution. To get the other ones, like Morroc Solution, I would guess it’s almost the same thing. Go back to Geffen with all the items, into the same building, and talk to the big machine in the middle. It’s called the Mixing Machine. Input all the right numbers, and get the solution. Talk to the woman again and show it to her. She will make you a Mage.
(I’m not sure if this quest works yet, if not, just go to the Job Changer in Payon.)
Archer
If you like long-range attack with no charge time, you'll want to be an archer. Archers attack from afar with Arrows, though they can use Swords or Knifes too. Usually in a group, archers hang back and attack without taking any damage. Although arrows cost zeny, they're very inexpensive, and you can buy many at a time. The best stat to increase for archers is dex and agi, maybe a little strength if you want. Some example skills for an archer are: Owl's Eye, Vulture's Eye, Arrow Shower, and Improve Concentration.
To become an archer, you must...[Naru's Edit: You must first go to the north west portal from payon and you'll end up in Payon Archer Village. From here go up toward the cave but you'll see a fork in the road, go north right and you'll end up at a house. From here talk to the guy inside. Now you must go kill willows and gather Fine Grained Trunks and the other kind except regular trunks]...or use the job changer in payon.
Acolyte
If you consider yourself a helpful and good-natured person, you're already well on your way to being an acolyte. Acolytes use white magic -- healing and such. They are a little hard to level, but it's worth it in the end. There are two types of Acolyte: Support Aco and Attack Aco. They both use Maces The usual type of Aco is Support. Support Acos do best in groups and parties, attacking when they can, and healing their friends. The best stats for Support Acos are int and dex. Attack Acos can travel better on their own, and have high strength. They can hold their own in battle, and they can also heal themselves. They can wander Rune-Midgard by themselves or in parties, because they have good hit rates and healing abilities. The best stat for the Attack Aco is str, with int whenever possibe. Some skils they have are: Heal, Increase Agi, Teleport, and Warp. They only have one skill to attack, and that's Holy Light, which you can get from Zolltarn.
To become an Acolyte, warp to Prontera. In the upper-right corner of the city there is a church. Walk to it, and go inside. Indoors, go to the right doorway and talk to the guy behind the desk. He asks you if you want to be an Acolyte, say yes. He'll send you on one of two quests. The first one is to meet Father Yosuke. From Prontera, go one map east, and then one map north fron the centre of the map. Keep walking north until you find a little island with a bridge. Father Yosuke is on the island, but watch out for him, because he doesn't look like a priest. Talk to him, then make your way back to the church and talk to the guy behind the counter again. He will make you an acolyte! The second quest is to go talk to ..... Talk to him, and make your way back to the church. Talk to the guy and he will make you an acolyte! (You can also use the job changer in Payon)
