Windows vista 5744 RC2 :)
just felt like posting this here for those that havn't had a play or seen Vista yet, desktop is how it looks default after install.

IMO has some really nice features but being beta is also rather buggy but i fully recommend buying this the moment its released :D as even as its beta its much better than xp also IMO, on the downside tho if your running an older system i wouldn't get it however :( cause its driver support is going to be rather limited for aged hardware, i barely managed to find drivers for mine that work nicely.

Hah. They tried to make widgets and failed. It's so much better with apple's dashboard that you can call up whenever you feel the need without minimizing any of your programmes.

Funky start button and new icons, fewer lines on the taskbar, and a strange supposed-to-look-shiney split colour feel to the startbar. It looks a little guier but it doesn't look like anything special. I'll still try it though when I can get a good version :S

Thats just how it looks standard, you can get rid of the dashboard wannabe thing on the side, but thats not why i like it, the reason why i think its better than xp is because of the way it handles programs, theres too much to really want to go into here... but its deffinatly worth trying and RC2 is still a free download. and for the ram hungry thing thats not at all true, it uses around 280MB of ram when doing ya everyday things like surfing and chatting an such, i'm on xp right now and its using 460MB so nuff said about the ram issue.

Yeah it wont take off. Serious Gamers wont use it due to the amount of processing power it sucks up, and its totally impractical for business use.

I heard the only good thing that was meant to come out with Vista was a new file system, which was rumoured to be the most efficient File system yet. And yet Microsoft cancelled the inclusion of it when they realised it would extend their deadline for Vista's release.

Looks nice though... i ran it on my PC for about 20 mins but i couldnt run any games at higher than 800x600 resolution without nightmarish lag. Switched back to XP

lol not sure what you guys did, but i'd say you failed to set it up right, ensure that your drivers are working "properly" and not just working, i played battle field 2 which i add is very resource hungry also i played final fantasy XI and The Sims 2 all games worked fine under windows vista, 20 minutes is not really enough time to get any OS sorted and working nice, installing drivers and software will probley take you the better part of 20 mins. if your using NForce chipsets on your MOBO then there are official vista drivers for them, don't bother using previous versons of the driver also when installing devices that don't have vista drivers make sure that you set the compatability of the driver setup file to windows xp, and if you do have problems just install them manualy...

also CuisinartBlade your ram wouldn't have been at fault when running RO it would have been your cpu, when i use to play RO it used less than 100MB of ram, try running the game on full screen to reduce the strain on the cpu or grfx card, displaying the desktop and the gaming window might be causing the problem.

20 mins is plenty of time when you prepare the drivers waaay before the installation. I had all my drivers for Vista burnt to a disc ready to install once it was ready. Also, i use ATI cards, NVIDIA makes me vomit.

But yeah... bit dissapointed they stripped it of the new file system. Nice to see you enjoy it though, hopefully you can get the good use out of it like i never got too :D

Lol... if i want a good shiny OS without sucking out all the Memory and processor power... i will buy a Mac. :)

if you just want a os to look pretty i'd still recommend the windows enviroment over the mac enviroment, you can get plenty of shell replacment programs, but saying that stay away from such programs as windows blinds as it doesn't replace the shell it just throws a pretty lil wrapper over it, i recomend using something like aston as it can add that precious little dashboard feature, and replaces the shell so it wont hog ram or cpu power.

PS 20 mins isn't enough time to install drivers and get hardware and software configured and have a play with the OS, and having them on cd would just slow down the process if anything...

well in all honesty ya pc must be a lump of shit if it can't run this...
mine displays excellent program and system resource control in vista

here i have running
1 x Resource monitor window
1 x explorer window
1 x winamp app
1 x windows task manager
1 x ragnarok online app
1 x homeworld 2 app
1 x counter strike app
1 x battlefield vietnam app
1 x windows media player, playing VOB file

with all the above running the system was using 610MB of ram...
i could still move between windows with ease and without delay the sound in winamp didn't chugg or studder once and shifted between songs without delay, while sound from wmp played thru also with no problems, battlefield vietnam was hosting a lan server in co-op mode with 32 bots, counter strike was running lan game server with pod bot mod running 16 players max, homeworld was in skirmish with 3 cpu players, if thats not program control and stability i don't know what is... so quit hating the thing cause when its finished beta we all know its gonna be the best OS out there hands down, why fight it :P

Vista works fine for me. The beta didn't work so well but the final version is greaaaaat!!! Uses less processing power / ram then XP and i love the speed! It's incredible! Vista is made of win and win! Too bad my videocard doesn't support direct x 10 >_<
