Most of the time I do, except when someone gets in front of me, I use them to make the turn and push them into the dirt or w/e is in the way.

It depends on what I'm doing. If there's a shortcut or a back-alley (like in some of the NFS games), then I might take the shortcut, but when I'm actually in a circuit race, I follow the line without fail. So I voted the 3rd option. Because drifting is fun. :D
