Title: so...

CuisinartBlade - June 15, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
so here's the deal. we at dragonRO are concerned about the future. our future as a provider of fast, free online entertainment. as time moves on, so must our server.

the way I see it, we need to move on from RO1.

the server emulator for RO2 is almost ready and we can begin work on that within the next several months.

or, we can move on to some other popular MMO for which emulators already exist

as far as I know Lineage 2, WoW and Everquest. if there are any that I missed please let me know.

so, let the voting begin. where should dragonRO go?

discuss.

Trunks - June 15, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
I voted for Ragnarok Online 2. Lineage II servers Lag a lot, AND you need a far larger player base than this to enjoy that game. WoW, pretty much same deal, with their faction game play, our 12 people would be most likely split unevenly.

Never played EQ.

PS: I also don't have an actual computer right now. It's all broken. Laptop can only handle certain things :P

elrahimo - June 15, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
I say stick to good ole RO1.

Trunks - June 16, 2008 02:15 AM (GMT)
RO1 will start get get really boring once there is no new content released from gravity.....

CuisinartBlade - June 16, 2008 02:19 AM (GMT)
we could always develop our own in-house new content. itamz and NPC's aren't THAT hard to make. as for skills? also possible with some research into eathena code

Trunks - June 16, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
I like the idea of us expanding onto something new. Ragnarok Online has been good to us for the last what, five years we've been playing here?, but we should look into obtaining some RO2 emulation stuff so we can party in 3D.

Gohan - June 16, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
I like Ro with new stuffs.

toypupetz - June 16, 2008 06:41 AM (GMT)
I say we stick with RO....we could always explore the option of hosting a second server for RO2 as long as we help out in paying for the server space. But im sure that would take alot more effort on the behalf of the GM team. So I'd say we just add new exciting content to our already nicely done RO.

Critical Fury.

P.S. one day ill get around to learning about making a sig XD

P.S.S. as far as added skills I really dont think that would be neccessary, my only complaint would be adding a bonus set of stats to teh newer classes I.e. Taekwon/Gunslinger/Ninja, when they reach say lvl 90 or something.

Gaara - June 16, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
RO's a great game but we're clearly struggling to attract a new large community, I don't see why since the rates are great, lag free & always online but oh well.

It does feel like we've given it more or less everything we can..

I'm voting RO2 because Warcraft you really do need a large community - which I guess probably won't be hard to attract with the attraction around the game, but I'd love to see dRO2, not dwow :(

Trunks - June 16, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
There is no way, with the way our community is right now, we could think about hosting two separate servers. However, I have heard rumors that the RO2 emulator would only be handed out in small increments so if we happen to get our hands on it, we might see a massive surge in members.

Gohan - June 16, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
I happen to know someone involved in the RO2 project that I could talk to about it, if the community wants that.

go for it. if we can get a surge of players it would be nice. one of the first servers to run a grav-like RO2 server for free ? would be awesome.

Madatsubomi - June 17, 2008 05:43 AM (GMT)
My thoughts revolve around sticking with the current RO, but I also would like to try the new RO as well. Personally I'm leaning towards RO2, but then again who knows. It's surely to increase our player base, or so it seems to fit logically.. The only thing is, I have some unfinished business to be done on this current one.

A secondary server so we could do both seems a little expensive with what we currently run, that, including the donations. If the community grows and we get more donations running, then perhaps the first RO could be brought around again.

In the end, I'm going to put my vote into the second one, I've only had experience with WoW and indeed it does require quite a community, Horde or Alliance, would go to the flip of a coin.

Will I ever finish the set task before then, who knows... I hope so. >.===.>

If there is any way that I might be of assistance, I will do so gladly.

Ummm. Horde........duh...........

Isshi - June 17, 2008 04:29 PM (GMT)
Well, It's kinda hard to pick from Ragnarok Online(mostly DragonRO) or Ragnarok Online 2... But it is true what (mostly) everyone has been saying, with limited rate of people we have on the server it's pretty close to near nothing. There are a few people who still play but I do believe they may be getting a little bored of doing the same thing (if I'm wrong then sorry). RO2 might be the way to go but it's kinda sad after having all the fun on DragonRO so Im not really sure what to vote for, i dont even know why im posting something at 2:29am (in Australia).

The way I see it, If DragonRO moves to RO2 then I guess its what happens.
My opinion: I dont really want DragonRO to.. well die (my words) and as everyone and myself said before, with the community we have atm it might not last. lol Oh well whatever happens... Happens, Now I sleep. ^_^

P.S
World of Warcraft gets boring >.> Half of the time anyways and I have never played the other games up there.

Trunks - June 17, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
I have yet to get bored with WoW...........you just can't play on a Barren Private Server.

Did you play PvE or PvP? PvE is boring by nature in my opinion. At least in PvP you get to go into enemy territory and can murder them in front of their friends for laughs.

I got bored far before I got to the PvP part of the game. lv 31 was my highest character.

also, i'm dislike PvP. in most MMO's I find the grind relaxing and enjoyable (Anarchy Online, i'm looking at you), but here it was stressful and unrewarding. felt more like a job and less like a game, so I said f**k it.

Gaara - June 18, 2008 11:36 AM (GMT)
The problem with WoW is that without ridiculously overpowered characters, like, level 150+, we would need a minimum of 25 people and they would have to select delegated classes, be online at the same time and know what they are doing, otherwise PVE beyond level 70 is rather pointless and thus, is the game.

Kanoga - June 18, 2008 01:23 PM (GMT)
I say RO2.

I dunno, wouldn't it be cool if all the old people came back to play RO2?

It'd be like the golden ages all over again. ;_;

Oh and then theres the hundreds of other people. We can just pretend they're not there.

Actually that sounds kinda fun. I wouldn't mind RO2 if that's the case.

mmboss5 - June 18, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
I vote RO2. It would be sad to let dRO die, but I sign on everyonce in a while and barely anyone is on anymore, and I find myself getting bored fairly quickly when I am the only one playing. WoW is fun and I play, but with so many servers out there gettng a large community I think may be difficult. I think RO2 may be our best bet. If we could get it up around the time of release we could get a lot of players right off the bat, and even attract players of dRO that have been MIA for some time now. I have never played the other games mentioned. That is all.

Madatsubomi - June 19, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
Whoever said the original RO had to die? I know well only be able to play/afford a single server if and when there's a change in emulation. But the data of everything can still remain, can't it? It seems to me this thought would of struck everyone though already, so.. now I'm kind of confused on why I brought the point up in the first place.

Though, I must state that about WoW, it was indeed fun at times wandering about as a druid and killing random horde that appears. It was rather annoying when there was a group that came and camped you though. Then again, what was the saying.. all is fair in love and war? Don't think that was quite it.. need to pick up my books again.

Jaylor - June 19, 2008 04:41 AM (GMT)
There's no way that the character data and such will be transferable to RO2, seeing as it's basically a whole new emulation system, and the game itself is different.

I'm glad no one voted for wow or lineage or everquest, seeing as I do not like those games and know very little about them, and there's no way we're switching away from the Ragnarok games :P

I personally think it would be fantastic to have an RO2 emulator. Though I like RO more, I'd love to experience running an RO2 server

Trunks - June 19, 2008 05:43 AM (GMT)
If we switch to RO2 and start advertising as soon as possible that we have it, we have a chance at having a large community again, which I think will be better to have than anything else to tell the truth.

Gaara - June 19, 2008 01:31 PM (GMT)
I think he meant we could save all the original files from RO1 Jay, not transfer them to RO2.

If we get an RO2 server up amongst the first servers to do so, we keep it up and we keep it wipe free, we have a great shot at revisiting the good old days - and this time, keeping them!

I could easily set-up a standing order to pay for a server for a lively community and it wouldn't be an issue.

I was going to do the same for current dRO but have smelt the death coming for a while now.. :swt:

Trunks - June 19, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
What would be cool is if there is still guild play (which I assume there is) we can start a guild of all the 'Vets'....or people who made it through this drought, however you want to word it. Keep our demented small family together when we hit the big time :P

mmboss5 - June 19, 2008 07:49 PM (GMT)
The more we talk about it, I feel a shot at the good old days is more and more probable. I am all for an RO2 server.

toypupetz - June 20, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
Well I dont like the idea much, When RO2 beta came out, i swore I would never switch to a 3d version of Ragnarok, and if we switch then ill be done with my RO experience....I really dont wanna start all over on Ragnarok, I've done it a few times and each times sucks more and more. But it doesnt matter seems most of you are up for RO2 so ill say my goodbyes until the server goes down. Good to see ya, Glad to get to know ya.

That's not what I meant.. I meant as in storing character data for if and when we get a chance to run up a second server.

Just a quick message to say that.

Aww.. Critical, no. Don't leave us. I'd be a lonely snake... '.===.'
Well, the matter to be discussed later on, but please do reconsider staying with us.

Trunks - June 21, 2008 02:39 AM (GMT)
With crit leaving that puts the servers regulars down to what.....4?

:( Hurry up with RO2 please. We need moar people.

Kanoga - June 21, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
I give people ideas.

Madatsubomi - June 22, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
Well.. Depending on how things go, I may be able to provide a dedicated server that provides 3.0 MB/down and 1.5MB/up. Not sure how useful that would be.. It's that new FIOS thing. Was talking to Hellfyre and he said that he may be able to help. He's also interested in RO2 apperantly.

ShadO - July 10, 2008 11:25 AM (GMT)
I went with RO2. i cant satisfy my ragnarok urges anymore. theres only 2 or 3 people on at any given time. at least it was tolerable at 15. we have had dRO on an iron lung for too long now. i feel like if we were one of the first RO2 servers, we could pull in a large community maybe get the donation system running strong again, and eventually be able to pay for both? and if you think about it, having both would give a big boost in our RO1 population too just by association. besides I wanna see what the new @nuke kanoga looks like :woot:

Mishala - July 11, 2008 04:27 AM (GMT)
hmmm the last time a game I played upgraded to a new system... my computer couldn't handle the new specs....therefore I quit playing it after being devout to it for almost 10 years (the game me and andi met on t4c) this is my only fear
as I am already having issues with this stupid pc blah

ro2

I think change is sometimes necessary to keep something alive... hence me moving to kentucky (to keep myself alive)

Trunks - July 11, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
How is Kentucky going to keep you alive!? o.o

ShadO - July 11, 2008 05:48 AM (GMT)
maybe less crazy people? move to MA ill take care of ya =D

Trunks - July 11, 2008 05:59 AM (GMT)
She said she wants to keep her sanity cap'n, not loose it :P

I just noticed I need to do one final update for my sig....half those characters are leveled beyond that now o.o

Mishala - July 15, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
