Sigurd (Siegfried) was the greatest hero in Germanic legend, and central character of the Saga of the Volsungs. He was the foster-son of Regin, who sent him to recover a fabulous hoard of gold. Regin's father Hreidmar had first acquired this treasure, which once belonged to the dwarf Andvari. To get their hands on the gold Regin and his brother Fafnir had then killed Hreidmar, but Fafnir wanted the treasure for himself and turned into a dragon to guard it.

Regin wished to possess the treasure which his brother guarded, and to this end forged a great sword for Sigurd, but it broke the first time it was tested, and Sigurd had his father's sword reassembled and re-forged, and Gram stood every test. By cunningly stabbing the monster from underneath, Sigurd succeeded in slaying Fafnir, thus gaining both wealth and wisdom (by licking the blood of the slain dragon), since Fafnir was said to have understood the language of birds. When he realized that Regin intended to kill him for the gold, Sigurd slew him before carrying it away himself.

Sigurd then went to free the Valkyrie maiden Brunhilde, who lay in a magical sleep, cast there by Odin, for daring to rise above his wishes. But Brunhilde had sworn only to marry the man who could ride through the fire that surrounded her dwelling. Gunnar wanted her, but could not perform the feat, but Sigurd in Gunnar's shape did so. Thus Brunhilde agreed to marry Gunnar.

Here's one of ppl forgot to mention here

Name: Tyr

God of war. He was the only god brave enough to put his hand in the Fenris- wolf's mouth so the gods could bind it. The wolf bit off his right hand. There is much debate about his lefthandedness. In the norse culture the right hand was given for a pledge, which could be why the right hand was placed in the wolf's mouth. It has also been noted, however, that the offering of the right hand is to show that it is free of weapons. A left handed person was sometimes considered evil because he could use a weapon with his left hand even though he shook with his right hand.

Tuesday is named for Tyr who was known as Tiw, or Tiu, by the Anglo-Saxons. He must have been an important god in the pantheon prior to the mythology we were handed down in the eddas to have one of the days of the week named after him.

Since Tuesday is the English name given in place of the name of the day of the week sacred to Mars for the romans, we know that the old englishmen thought of Tyr as being smiliar to Mars.

You can find a bit of this info already stated in the Ragnarok mangas ... someone named "Fenris Fenrir" (who's female) is searching for Balder (-ur?) who has been reincarnated ... and that's all I can rememember. =_=...
Oh yeah, but a valkyrie is trying to stop her from doing so... I'm confused, it's conflicting with the info I just read ... :twitch:
Mm, and in the 2nd book, Baldur (-er?) summons Nidhogg, described as "Nidhogg, devourer of the dead... the eater beneath the tree of life, Yggdrasil... ... ever chewing at the roots, he is the mortality of the world, a sign of its coming demise..."
Mythology is fun =o3
Don't like me? Deal with it.

The Manga actually makes this game interesting......If I had enough money to buy the entire manga series I would...but i don't know how many books there are...so I know I can't afford it.

Yes, 'tis a great comic ^_^

Fenris Fenrir is the main character, along with Baldur, who yes is reincarnated but doesn't quite remember his past life. Valkyries want to stop them, some people want Baldur to remember, and there's one little treasure-huntress who's fun to read about travelling along with them

(I think Fenris and Fenrir are two spellings of the same animal, so it's interesting that they made her name that)
